At Luciano Tango Valencia, as well as the regular courses you can sign up for by the month, or the weekend afternoon intensive classes, you can also take private Argentine tango lessons, individual or one-to-one, whatever you like to call them.

In these private tango lessons in Valencia, you are alone with the teacher for an hour. The lesson can be for a woman on her own, a man on his own or a couple. It takes place in our studio at a time that suits you and that you agree with us, whether morning, midday, afternoon or evening.

Private Tango Lessons in Valencia for all levels

The private Argentine tango lessons we teach at our academy in Valencia can be for any level of dancing. Whether you want to start, or to improve or perfect your dancing. In other words, every level, from Introduction to Intermediate or Advanced.

Needless to say, these lessons are extremely useful, because the attention that is usually shared among several people in a group, following a programme designed for everyone, is in this case exclusively for those taking that hour, with a personalised lesson plan.

At any level, Introduction, Intermediate or Advanced, the programme is fully tailored to the student or couple. At Introduction level, we progress according to their abilities and their previous experience of dancing, or lack of it, respecting the student’s pace and timing.

If, on the other hand, the student has already started, we give them the technical foundations of Argentine tango they are missing and try to make use of everything they already know from their previous experience. At intermediate or advanced level, we build on everything they know and focus on their interests, complementing what they know with the technical foundations they lack, while giving them an elegant tango, attentive to detail, rich and rooted in the variety of Argentine tango orchestras.

Choreography, technique and rhythm in Argentine tango

In our classes you will learn real Argentine tango, as we taught it in Argentina and as it is danced there. The tango that has become popular and that, beyond differences in style, shares the same pillars. That is why it is best to learn from those of us who have lived and learned that tango in Argentina, without the distortions it sometimes suffers at the hands of people from other disciplines or dances, such as ballroom, who have not lived tango in Argentina.

Approaches to tango that come from other dances sometimes alter its pillars considerably, in terms of posture, movement and lead. They are often limited to teaching figures and nothing more. Approaches foreign to Argentine tango, such as contemporary dance, ballet or ballroom, often have a technique different from ours, and so they are limited to teaching steps.

Our school has a teaching system in which all the choreographic, technical and rhythmic elements of Argentine tango come together. They complement one another, giving the student faster, more coherent and more solid learning, and a dance that is aesthetic, expressive, rich, varied and grounded in the music, for both men and women.

So in private lessons we gradually cover all the pillars of Argentine tango, in the order that best serves the student’s progress, their gaps, needs and interests.

A personalised lesson plan for each student

Our private tango lessons in Valencia adapt to each student’s needs. Some students who live in Valencia prefer one or more fixed days and times, and we reserve those slots for them. Others, on the contrary, can’t predict far in advance which day they will be able to come to class, so they tell us each week, or within the same week, that they can take their lesson the next day or in a couple of days, and we make it happen.

Many students also come to take lessons from other cities in Spain, from other European countries and from other continents. In these cases they are in Valencia for a few days, sometimes a few weeks. In many cases they come to the city just to do an intensive week of lessons with us.

In these cases we coordinate a lesson plan according to their goals and the number of hours they want to devote to tango. Since their time is limited, sessions are sometimes longer, two, three or four hours, sometimes back to back, sometimes spread over the day. The results are excellent. Students often write to tell us that, back home, they have been moved up to more advanced classes thanks to the intensive private lessons they took during those days.

In these cases, because the lessons are continuous, with many hours in a short time and no days off in between, students get into the dance, and constant practice helps them loosen up. We have had both advanced students and beginners, and they have done great work, improving their tango exponentially in a short time. Some of them come back regularly to repeat the formula.

At the same time, where possible, we encourage beginners taking private lessons to combine them with group classes, to get a fuller sense of what it will be like later to dance with people of different levels, as happens at milongas, where some dance very well and others have their own quirks. You need to learn to dance so that you can dance with anyone, anywhere, at any time.

In the coming weeks, this may well be one of the first types of class able to restart, so whether as a couple or on your own, it is an alternative to waiting for group classes. We will see what the regulations say.
